Monosodium glutamate (msg)
MSG is the sodium salt of the amino acid glutamic acid, widely used food-additives. MSG is known as ‘tasting salt’, improves the taste acceptability of foods. It is used as an ingredient to enhance the savory, meaty umami flavor (the fifth flavor) of foods such as meat, poultry, soups, stews, gravies, seafood, snacks, egg & vegetable dishes. MSG can be used in low sodium items to increase flavor without the addition of salt. About ½ teaspoon of MSG is enough to season a pound of meat or a dish that serves 4 to 6 people.
